Resting Metabolic Rate / Resting Energy Expenditure

Your resting metabolic rate, or resting energy expenditure (REE), is the energy your body uses to sustain vital functions – breathing, cell growth and repair, circulation. If you spent the day lying down without moving, your body would still burn calories to carry out these basic functions. The number of calories you burn is your REE.

Your metabolism is the missing piece to weight management. Typically, your body burns most of your energy intake when you’re at rest – not when you’re exercising. Once you know how many calories your body actually uses, you can adjust your diet and exercise plan to reach your goals. In fact, the American Dietetic Association strongly recommends basing your energy needs on your resting metabolic rate.

$100 includes pre and post assessments of hydration status, a personalized hydration report, and guidelines for optimal hydration for your individual needs.

No more guessing at your hydration plan! We can accurately measure your sweat rate and sweat sodium concentration to provide a Personalized Nutrition plan for your training and racing needs! During this visit, we will assess pre- and post-exercise measures of hydration, give you a report of the results, and provide detailed hydration recommendations that are specific to your needs and environmental conditions.

We can run a standard protocol and have you in and out of the lab in 90 minutes, or we can tailor the protocol to your specific needs: Training for a 50k ultra? We’ll send you out on the Boulder Creek Path and get you into the foothills for a 2 or 3 hour run. The methods are individualized for your needs!

Race Day Nutrition and Hydration Plan

$125 includes all of the pre and post hydration data, plus Muscle Fuel storage, a personalized report, and individualized guidelines for your training or racing needs.

Race Day or Training Nutrition Plan

The process:

Pre-training assessment of hydration and glycogen status
Complete your training session in our lab or outdoors
Post-training assessment of hydration and glycogen status
Consultation to develop fueling and hydration plan

Glycogen is the storage form of carbohydrate, and carbs are the fuel choice of endurance athletes for optimal performance. Through non-invasive ultrasound assessment powered by Musclesound, we can accurately measure your glycogen stores (i.e., your fuel tank) and provide individualized recommendations on training and nutrition to optimize performance and recovery.

From baseline testing to repeated measures throughout a season or during a nutrition intervention, body composition information is paramount to understanding where weight loss or gain is coming from. With this assessment, we will accurately assess the relative contribution of fat mass versus fat-free mass on body weight. This information helps to drive recommendations and track changes long-term.
