There are over 6000 athletes who participate in sports in the Boulder Valley School District each year. Back in the fall of 1999 Boulder Community Hospital and the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine partnered with BVSD to provide a full time certified athletic trainer (AT) in the 6 major high schools in Boulder County. CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center and Boulder Community Health continue this partnership with the following schools:
Boulder High School
Broomfield High School
Centaurus High School
Fairview High School
Monarch High School
Nederland High School
Each high school has a fully equipped athletic training room giving student-athletes access to treatment and rehab of injuries with modalities that include ultrasound & E-stim as well as hot packs and ice. The ATs work in conjunction with the athlete’s health care providers as well as with the physicians and physical therapists at CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center to help evaluate, treat and rehabilitate the injuries that students may incur. The AT also acts as a liaison between coaches, parents and physicians in an effort to make sure the athlete is participating safely in their sport after an injury.
The athletic trainers provide medical coverage for home events, with top priority given to the sports with the highest rate of injury. The ATs also travel with varsity football.
The athletic trainers can help you with referrals to CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center for additional treatment if needed. CUSMPC offers a Bumps and Bruises Clinic on Saturdays from 7-11am (August – October) and Mondays from 8-10am; please contact your AT for more information.
